Investigations by H M Revenue & Customs
Being the subject of a tax investigation by H M Revenue & Customs can be a stressful and worrying experience. With the onset of personal and corporate self-assessment, HMRC staff can now review cases on a 'sample basis'; consequently, tax investigations have become more frequent. We have a wealth of experience in dealing with Inland Revenue investigations, whether they are enquiries into an individual’s Tax Return under the Self Assessment regime, more detailed enquiries or employer-related investigations into PAYE and P11d compliance. If you are about to be the subject of an investigation, we can provide expert help and support.
Tax protection
With the increased risk of investigations by H M Revenue & Customs, Wren Accountancy Services Ltd offer our clients protection from unexpected costs through our Professional Fee Protection Service.
Our Professional Fee Protection Service covers the professional costs of defending an enquiry or investigation by H M Revenue & Customs. In order to minimise the cost all clients are initially assumed to participate but they are NOT OBLIGED to do so.
The plan protects each client for professional fees to a limit of £10,000 per claim in respect of each of the following categories:
a) H M Revenue & Customs In-Depth Investigation or aspect enquiry.
b) PAYE Compliance review giving rise to irregularities.
c) PAYE Audit Inspection giving rise to irregularities.
d) Customs and Excise VAT dispute / investigation.
e) DSS Investigation.
In addition to the protection for companies a similar level of protection is also extended to each director in respect of their personal tax affairs provided we act for them in this capacity.
Uniquely this plan does not include an 'Honesty Clause' so that payment does not depend on the outcome of the investigation and is not affected by errors and omissions identified by H M Revenue & Customs, late submission of accounts, or by the level of penalties imposed following the investigation.
